Welcome to the Blog.

Apparently, you don’t need to be a writer to write a blog, which is just as well because I’m not a writer; I’m a Pilates Teacher (and a Pilates Studio owner).

This is where I'll try to add another layer of understanding of what we do, how we do it and at times some shorter items of random thoughts and/or reflections.

It’s A Wunda-Full Chair

Published on 25th Mar 2019 at 09:30 by Efrat (Aoife) Kahanov

The Pilates Chair, also known as the Wunda Chair, was originally designed by Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) as a home exercise equipment (doubles as a living-room chair for small New York apartments). A simple piece of equipment the Chair consists of a seat, a pedal and springs that attach to the pedal (to adjust the resistance).

We all know that spending too much time sitting in chairs is bad for us.
Our backs hurt, our shoulders and necks are crying, our hips are aching and getting up from that prolonged sitting can be an uncomfortable (or even a difficult) endeavour…

A Chair Class might sound strange. But, it's not the chair or even sitting that is actually harmful for us.

It is the “Staying in one position for a long period of time” that is unhealthy for us and wrecks our bodies.

Joe Pilates witnessed the changes of how people work and move in their lives back in the 1930s. In his writings he warned about the health risks and repercussions of sitting at the desk all day. Pilates designed different pieces of apparatus to get people moving with his Body Contrology system to combat the effects of the sedentary life style he saw emerging.

Pilates built a chair that promotes better POSTURE, helps us MOVE our bodies, build STRENGTH, STABILITY and BALANCE to keep us healthy.

Our Pilates Trio Chair Classes will help you achieve all that.

Intimate classes of only 3 participants utilise the Pilates Chair to facilitate and help navigate your body through the Pilates movement system.
Challenge your balance, stability, core engagement & muscle activation as you sit, lie or stand on the chair (or next to it). You will work your lower & upper body against the spring-resistance pedal.

You will feel Wunda-Full at the end of this special and unique class.

Watch the videos below to see Joe Pilates demonstrate how he envisioned his chair in use at the home and showing/teaching the chair exercises:
